He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Building Consent team have a crucial role in ensuring safe, compliant, and well-constructed buildings by ensuring that construction adheres to codes, safety standards and regulations.
This role will help you understand compliance (or non-compliance) with the building code and the approved building consent specifications.
Your day-to-day tasks will involve assisting with:
- Site inspections by reviewing the consent and building work across disciplines such as building, plumbing and drainage.
- Complaint investigation and audits with our capability team.
- Front of house enquiries regarding building consent services.
- Providing advice in accordance to the Building act and codes.
- Processing of building consents.
Each rotation will provide a healthy mix of on-the-job learning, mentoring from experienced professionals and meaningful work.
At the end of the programme, you’ll also be supported in securing a permanent role within Auckland Council entities.
This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

We welcome applications from graduates who have done either a Diploma or a Bachelor level study in the following disciplines:
- Building Control Surveying
- Construction Management
- Quantity Surveying
- Architecture, Architectural drafting or technology
- Building Science
- Engineering (Civil, Construction, Architectural)

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:
- Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
- A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained in January 2023 – January 2025
- Have a valid NZ-restricted driver’s license with the ability to obtain a full licence by February 2025.
