Mosese Fifita, Building Consents Graduate 2017

“Unlike a dating app where you could find a perfect match with one simple right swiping motion, looking for the right career fit isn’t as straight-forward. So if you’re after meaningful insight into your industry, exciting and flexible learning and the chance to make a daily difference then the Auckland Council Graduate Programme is the perfect (career) match for you.”

Graduate stories

Bianka Lee, Community Facilities Graduate 2017

“Being part of the Auckland Council Graduate Programme 17/18 has been invaluable! I rotated in multiple teams, honed my tertiary legal knowledge and developed skills in property and land use. One of best parts was being seconded into a major council project led by a consultant agency. It challenged me to manage my own work portfolio and allowed me to contribute to improving great places in Auckland.”

I’ve worked on a variety of projects including surveying Kauri for Kauri Dieback, managing volunteer environmental projects, engaging a diversity of groups with parks and nature and educating children on the environment. I’ve attended workshops, conferences and events allowing me to gain insight into the work that other professionals in the industry are doing – nationally and internationally.”

“After completing my Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, I joined Auckland Council as a Building Control Graduate in 2018. From interaction with customers, processing Building applications, to early morning inspections and granting permissions, Auckland Council has been a lively, active, and happening workplace for me.”

Graduate stories

Melody Mendez, People & Performance Graduate 2015

“I chose the Auckland Council Graduate Programme because it would give me broader business exposure and a comprehensive skillset.  As a People & Performance (previously Transformation) Graduate, I’ve worked on significant projects that have had an impact across every part of Auckland Council. I also enjoyed understanding how Council operates at an enterprise level – it’s been a unique opportunity and provided learning that not many get so early in their career!”

Graduate stories

Maria Sopoaga, Legal Graduate 2018

“I joined the Graduate Programme after I came out of law school unsure of an exact direction. It was the perfect opportunity to experience different areas of law and practice my skills in a team that values my work. A highlight was being involved in a resource consent condition appeal mediation and being able to interact with leaders from the legal team and from other departments.”
